Unintentional & Unknown Sins!
“If a person sins unintentionally against any of the commandments of the LORD in anything which ought not to be done, and does any of them …” Leviticus 4: 2
“Now if the whole congregation of Israel sins unintentionally, and the thing is hidden from the eyes of the assembly, and they have done something against any of the commandments of the LORD in anything which should not be done, and are guilty; when the sin which they have sinned becomes known, then the assembly shall …” Leviticus 4:13
“If a person sins, and commits any of these things which are forbidden to be done by the commandments of the LORD, though he does not know it, yet he is guilty and shall bear his iniquity.” Leviticus 5:17
It is clear that, while Jesus forgives all of our sins, Jesus’ expectation for all of us is that we would no longer continue to “willfully sin.” This is the clear biblical message from God on repentance. A salient characteristic of true repentance is that it is actually followed by a cessation of continued willful sin. That doesn’t mean there is zero sin in a person’s life.
Now doesn’t that salient characteristic of repentance make intellectual and spiritual sense? If you have a changed heart, wouldn’t you expect to do things differently in your life? I would. If you find yourself having sinned unintentionally, you still need to repent, as God will hold you accountable. You need to keep a short list of all sins with God. You do this through daily prayer and repentance or by a specific repentance prayer whenever sin sneaks into your life. You will know when sin has crept into your life. God will speak to your heart to set “HIS” will straight with you. As you grow in faith and trust in the FATHER, the Spirit will convict you of sin the moment it happens in your life.
