All sin … period … Once for all. Is this the theology that you have been exposed to? Do you believe it? I continued the discussion with Keith the “teacher” …

Teacher, Fred has come in for Christian counseling and here is what he would now like to know. You see Fred claims that he is a serial killer and said he killed five people last month. However, Fred does say that he understands your message that all of his sins are forgiven. All sin … period … Once for all. Fred says that in his heart he has accepted Jesus. However, Fred now wants some more assurance that your teachings are true. Fred said he plans on killing another six people over the next 30 days and wants to make sure that those sins will also be forgiven.

So teacher, what should I tell him about the sacrifice of Jesus for those upcoming [future] sins? Are Fred’s upcoming [planned serial murder] sins truly forgiven as you say they are? Preposterous arguments for “real” Christians you say? Maybe. But isn’t that the kind of sick dialogue that permeates Christianity today regarding sin in our lives? Maybe your sin isn’t at the extreme end of killing people, but do you think that God now grades our sins on a curve like some college professor grades math scores?

Sin gets us back now in a full circle to the issue of real repentance. Exactly what is repentance and what is it not? Can one truly repent without actually stopping their sin? If so, how is that done? Or, does repentance by its very nature require us to stop sinning? It would appear, in the serial killer example, that repentance would not make any intellectual sense unless God actually intended for us to stop sinning. Would it? Or, do you still believe that Christians are free to sin in anyway and at any time they choose?

Those Christians who feel they can readily sin any time they feel like it certainly have no intellectual integrity. In fact, these people have bought into some errant theology. The argument is specious and holds no weight from a common sense standpoint with anyone participating in an honest intellectual debate. And as previously shown, it holds no weight with God’s Word. Well, what about Jesus? Doesn’t it hold some weight with Jesus?
